Remote virtual Design Sprint

⚡️ Organizations need to innovate faster than ever, but distributed teams' work can be a tricky challenge. So what about running a fully remote virtual Design Sprint? Sounds crazy? - well, we think that it's the perfect solution.

With the Remote Virtual Design Sprint, we are potentially compressing months of work into a few days, with no travel-time, hotel-reservations, or other restrictions (i.e., travel-bans). Everyone can participate remotely from the comfort of their own home.

Three years ago, it would have been impossible to offer such a service. However, the tools to make Remote Virtual Design Sprints a reality are now here. The Design Sprint community has done a lot of testing and experimenting. Tools such as Miro or Mural have integrated feedback from design sprint leaders to make it suitable for a Design Sprint. So today, thanks to these tools and our experience of running in-person Sprints with more than 60 companies, we are ready to accompany you in your virtual workshops.

Throughout your remote virtual Design Sprint, we will interact with each other in real-time by videoconferencing on Zoom. Mural, a virtual whiteboard on which everyone can contribute, allows us to run practical exercises and keep track of our ideas. A simple piece of paper and a pen will help you capture your sketches which will be shared on the whiteboard as well.

Remote Collaboration softwares

What is the best team for a design sprint?

The key to the success of a Design Sprint is to bring together a small multidisciplinary team of 5 to 7 people. When we carry out the Design Sprint, we ask for undivided attention and active participation during the first three days. We from Design Sprint Ltd. take care of the prototyping and user testing on days 4 and 5. All team members are then reconvened to discover the results of the Sprint either live on day 5, or later while watching the replays.

UX Design - User Experience

UX Design - User experience design

The Design Sprint is part of a trend of the current web: continuously improving the User Experience (UX) and specifically the User Centered Design (UCD).

Today, to stand out from the competition, the key is to take special care developing the User Experience (UX). The application is only part of a much larger sequence:

Sally was watching TV and saw an ad for Zalando with the dress of her dreams: she grabs her iPad and connects to the website, checks the dress carefully and buys it. She will receive it at home two days later in a nice colorful box.

This experience combines the visual and the soundtrack of the TV ad, the simplicity of ordering on the site, the impatient waiting to receive her package at home and Sally’s pleasure to try on her new dress

To visualise this experience, like a tv show’s writer would do, requires a perfect knowledge of its target audience : the slightest bug can lead to the failure of the overall process.

This is probably the real challenge of  a Design Sprint : Understanding the needs of your future users : what are the key features of the App ? what will make your user validate the purchase ?

Companies active in a digital world must continually reinvent themselves and strive to do better than the competition. The design , to be effective , must be tested very early on real users. Putting the product in the hands of neutral and objective users can quickly identify their qualities and weaknesses.

The huge advantage of design sprint is that in a few days, a prototype will be created and tested , with no code having been written.

In the end, a real time saver and the unique possibility of having been mistaken without too much of consequence. Don’t forget, the prototype is a TEST, not the real product!

Rapid digital prototyping

Digital Prototypes

Give the illusion of presenting a real website or a real App. Within a few days, or sometimes even a few hours, thanks to our teams skills and rapid prototyping experience we are able to simulate a final product.

The digital prototype can be different level of fidelity. Low or mild fidelity prototypes are perfect for testing a business concept or an idea. High fidelity prototypes look realistic and represents almost finished product.

A prototype simulates the design of product or concept, without writing any code. Being agile, our team review often and adapt working tools quickly. It allows us to use the most advanced softwares in the field. We are work with tools such as Figma, Cursor AI, Lovable, Krea AI or Adobe Photoshop to make even the most complex ideas tangible.

Iteration Design Sprint

⚡️ The first design sprint brought a ton of new knowledge and new qualitative data. Now your team has a good hunch of what will work or not.

If you need to push the project further fast, and capitalize on the Momentum you've created. Then an iteration design sprint is the solution.

The iteration sprint can be organized one or two weeks after the initial design sprint workshop.
It follows the structure of a classic Design Sprint, only way faster. The team exactly knows what to expect, and mutual trust is already built.
This time, we skip some exercises and go straight to the point. In a way, we already have a very good idea of what our solution should be because we’ve learned so much the week before.

We start the week with a retrospective of the first Sprint’s outcomes. What should we focus on? What didn’t work? What are the opportunities? When the team is aligned, we all sketch new concepts that will serve as a base for a better prototype.

Day 2 is devoted to prototyping. In one day, we usually get a leaner, more-focused prototype that is also more realistic. This is the perfect base for your future MVP. If feasibility is a concern, make sure you onboard engineers or tech specialists on this iteration.

On the third day, we test. Sometimes with the same customers, or with totally new testers. We will be able to validate our assumptions and tailor the perfect product, ready for execution.

Happy Clients

Show more clients

Requirements

  • An important and well-defined Sprint Challenge
  • Having run a design sprint 1-2 weeks before
  • A team of 5-7 people
  • a decision-maker (the sponsor of the project)

Sample agenda

  • Wednesday: 9:30 – 16:30
  • Thursday: Designers
  • Friday: 9:30 – 16:30

Deliverables

  • On day 2, we will have created a better, leaner and more accurate prototype based on what we know will work.
  • On day 3, we will present this prototype to future users or potential customers in order to get validation.

Outcomes

  • Reduced risk and uncertainty
  • An aligned team and a clear strategy
  • Data to take important, informed decisions
  • Dramatically improved speed of execution
  • Clarity to the innovation process
  • Engagement and momentum for a key project
  • First-hand learning experience in User Experience design

Why not make every design sprint 3 days?

The iteration design sprint is an amazing format, but is only suitable as a follow-up on a previous design sprint about the same topic.

With just 3 days, we can’t  explore new horizons or create totally new ideas, we go straight to the point and improve what already exists in order to build a more refined prototype and validate our assumptions.

User testing

The main risk of a new product or service creation is that it won't find its audience. That users may not understand or accept they must change their habits.Testing is the way to improve your concept significantly before you start coding. Those few hours can save you tons of money.

User tests can be performed either in 1:1 face-to-face or remotely using Skype, for example. We record each session, and, even if required, we can live stream.

The tests take about 20 minutes per participant. Unlike some scientific practices performed by specialists of user research ( Eyetracking, AB testing, user panels, etc.), our tests will be straightforward and pragmatic.

We will put our target group customers in front of the prototype, and ask them to perform a few simple tasks, without guiding them too much. We will carefully observe their verbal and emotional reactions, “pain points,” ergonomic problems. By asking open questions, we will allow customers to express themselves as much as possible and to bring their thoughts. It is often in this way that the most interesting insights appear.

We will also ask them about the purpose of the product or service to validate its business model.  As potential users, would they want to use this product? How much would they pay to use it? How could it be improved? etc

The tests are filmed, which will allow you to study in detail the reactions to your prototype.

A few minutes of testing with a neutral user will reveal most flaws or potential for improvement: remember, the prototype doesn’t have to be perfect, it should above all help you create the real product and avoid the pitfalls inherent to the creation of a digital service.

Why

  • Confronting a product to its market
  • Quickly detect opportunities for improvement
  • Validate or prioritize functionalities
  • Obtain answers to your questions without having launched the product beforehand

How

  • 1:1 tests (face-to-face)
  • Remote testing (Skype, etc.)
  • Test Scenario
  • The tests are recorded and can be livestreamed.
  • Scorecard to fill in

Result

  • Scorecard for product review
  • Detected Pain Points
  • Prioritized Features
  • Opportunities and new ideas

Week 1 ・Design Sprint workshop organized Design Sprint SA

During the first week, Design Sprint SA organizes a 5-day workshop with your team.

The goal of this close collaboration is to understand your objectives, generate interface and service ideas, align subject matter experts, and create a rapid prototype using the design tool Figma.

On the last day, UX tests are conducted with real users or target clients. This iterative and collaborative process quickly validates concepts and minimizes risks before moving to the development phase.

Weeks 2,3,4・Fullstack Low-code Development by Olympe

Olympe SA then takes over to transform this prototype into an operational MVP in three weeks. Using their integrated fullstack low-code development platform, Olympe SA integrates your real company data from various sources such as databases, business applications, and ERP, CRM tools (Excel, SAP, SharePoint, Salesforce, Oracle, Service Now, Microsoft Azure, Google Drive…), to create a fully functional MVP ready for internal or market testing. AI integration concepts can also be tested by connecting your MVP with Chat GPT or Microsoft Copilot and over thirty AI models, some of which are open source, allowing full control of the data.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is the first functional version of your product, which can be tested with your target audience.

This implies that we go beyond the validation of desirability. We also validate the technical feasibility and economic viability of the tool.

Olympe’s composition platform lets you build functional interfaces in record time, and link them to real data.

The product concept will actually be created or refined during the first week of the design sprint. The Prototype will align your team and solidify this vision.

On the other hand, it’s important that you have an important business need to address at the start of the week, which will enable you to launch the project and bring your team together:

– Either a major issue that’s slowing you down, paralyzing your organization or costing you money

– A great opportunity to be seized quickly

The first three days (strategic part) are mandatory. This is the best way to build a meaningful product based on real-life use cases.

Days 4 (Prototype) and 5 (Test) are recommended, but are optional for the whole team.

Following the initial design sprint, during the construction phase, only 1 business expert and 1 IT person will be mobilized to answer Olympe’s questions on average once a day.

You may have already heard of No code or Low code tools such as Webflow, Framer or Bubble.

These tools target a designer audience with strong visual needs, but limited functional requirements. The use cases are very simple websites or Apps, destined to be discarded quickly after the MVP phase. The code generated is generally of low quality and not very scalable.

These tools are hosted in the USA, unnecessarily exposing your data.

Based in Switzerland, Olympe, on the other hand, is an advanced Fullstack Low-code composition platform aimed at web developers mastering stacks such as React Typescript or Javascript in general.

There are no more limits: developers can use pre-programmed “bricks”, or code their own in a flexible way.

Olympe accesses your corporate data, such as Excel, SharePoint, databases or your business applications (ERP, CRM, production, …) and can manipulate them using AI if required in an extremely precise and creative way.

Yes, that’s one of the great strengths of this model: during the MVP phase, you can thoroughly test your tool with your target audience.

Then you have three choices:

  1. Stop because the product doesn’t deliver the expected value
  2. Develop the project, in the traditional way, over the long term with the chosen technology, using the MVP as a basis for your work.
  3. Or simply keep the MVP and continue building on Olympus! In this case, nothing changes: all you have to do is add new features and scale on the existing base.

Some customers run Apps with tens of thousands of users on Olympus.

Let's launch your MVP

A shorter design sprint?

No! A complete sprint design in 5 days always ends with the prototyping and testing of the solution. Strategic Alignment Workshop lasts two day. The activities are very close to the ones of the classical Design Sprint, but in more condensed way. The challenge of this workshop needs to be very precise.

The purpose of this workshop is to align the team about their goals, values and purposes.

Web & Apps design

Design and creation of websites and mobile applications

At Design Sprint Ltd. we are proud to have a very experienced team. Each of our designers, senior UX / UI, is a graduate of a design school and has spent over 15 years in web design: designing, prototyping, coding, launching and maintaining websites, mobile applications, services and innovative products.

Our process regularly starts with a Design Sprint, but we can intervene later, when the specifications are already well defined for example.

In addition to the Design / UX / Graphic Design work, we can take care of project management and act as Product Owner on the most complex projects.

When the technical requirements are relatively simple (for example the creation of a Wordpress site or a Shopify shop) we do everything ourselves.

When the needs are more technical (Apple iOS or Android applications), Intranet, Drupal sites, etc. We collaborate with the best development teams in French-speaking Switzerland to bring your websites and applications to life.

Product Design and rapid prototyping

Product design definition besoins

1. Defining Objectives

To start, we'll clarify together the expected outcomes of the project to create a user experience that aligns with the users' needs and business objectives.

  • Understanding the project's needs.
  •  Defining specific objectives for the prototype.
  • Creating quick sketches to explore design ideas.

2. Research and Analysis

Next, we analyze user needs, market trends, and competitors to create an optimal user experience.

  • Gathering information about users.
  • Testing digital competitors and selecting industry best practices.
  • Analyzing data to guide the design of the prototype.

3. Prototyping

Informed by the first two phases, we create your prototype. This could be a mobile app, software, a dashboard, a website, or even a process. The goal of this prototype is to be tested by your users before we design its final version and proceed with development.

  • Creating more elaborate versions with finer details.
  • Defining the structure, layout of elements, and navigation.
  • Using prototyping tools like Figma to create interactive versions with limited functionalities.
  • Focusing on the layout, navigation, and basic interactions.

4. User Testing

Once your functional prototype is ready, we conduct user testing and submit your prototype to qualified users. This allows us to validate or invalidate your hypotheses in terms of ergonomics, economics, or technology, and also to identify and resolve potential issues before the final design. We regularly conduct user tests for our clients and offer this service on demand. If you’re interested in user testing, click here.

5. Prototype iteration

Thanks to the insights from user testing, we make modifications and improvements to the prototype interfaces to achieve a more efficient and user-friendly final design. Of course, user testing can be conducted after each iterative phase.

  • Collecting and analyzing user feedback to highlight strengths and areas for improvement in the interface.
  • Identifying and incorporating improvements into the prototype for an interface aligned with user needs.

Thanks to our Design Sprints, we reach this point in just a week.

Design Sprint workshops are accelerators. They enable direct collaboration with domain experts, fostering rapid idea convergence and the creation of a tangible prototype ready for testing.

6. High-Fidelity Design

High-fidelity design reflects the appearance and behavior of the final product and includes all the essential views, graphics, and functional elements required for development.

  • Detailed graphic design of all views.
  • Integration of all interactions.
  • Validation of the prototype with stakeholders, including clients and members of the development team.

7. Transfer to development

Once the design is finalized and validated, we ensure a smooth transition to development, closely accompanying the team to bring the final user interface to life.

  • Documenting the details of the prototype, including interactions, visual elements, and other relevant specifications.
  • Providing the necessary files and documents to developers.
  • Collaborating with the development team to ensure a smooth transition from the prototype to the final product.

The Design Sprint Process

The idea is, in fact, very simple. A small team clears its calendar for a week and dedicates itself to following the process, rapidly progressing from challenges to tested solutions.

Your team is actively involved in designing the concept for the first three days of the Sprint.

On day 4, our top-notch designers, along with some members of your team, will create a realistic prototype.

Real customers or stakeholders will then test that very prototype on day 5. We will collect and analyze the user feedback together to assess the potential of your concept. After the Sprint, we will help you take the next steps to move the project forward.

The Design Sprint Process

Requirements

  • An important and well-defined Sprint Challenge
  • A team of 5-7 people
  • a decision-maker (the sponsor of the project)
  • a dedicated physical space adapted for creativity

Sample agenda

  • Monday: 9:30 – 16:30
  • Tuesday: 9:30 – 16:30
  • Wednesday: 9:30 – 16:30
  • Thursday: 9:30 – 17:30 (reduced team)
  • Friday: 9:30 – 16:30

Deliverables

  • On day 4, we will have created a high-fidelity prototype allowing us to test the concepts imagined during the previous days.
  • On day 5, we will present this prototype to future users or potential customers. The interviews and user reactions are filmed, and the lessons are captured using a scorecard.

Outcomes

  • Reduced risk and uncertainty
  • An aligned team and a clear strategy
  • Data to take important, informed decisions
  • Dramatically improved speed of execution
  • Clarity to the innovation process
  • Engagement and momentum for a key project
  • First-hand learning experience in User Experience design

Get involved

You are the experts in your field. The key to a successful Design Sprint is to bring together a small, multidisciplinary team of 5-7 people. We require a minimum of three days’ effective presence (workshop part).

Your team is also invited to prototype and watch Live testing on Day 5.
